Summer Teaze

"Its a very happy day
We are at lots of fun fun fun
And its ice-cream and jelly
And a punch in the belly
How much can you throw over the walls?" The Birthday Party - Happy Birthday

The sun is showing itself and glinting with the promise of summer, an end to our pseudo winter is near, we can feel it. With this our busy city comes back to life with a bang a kapow and birthday pinata of treats. Let your eyes awaken here...

Consequential Autonomy - an Exhibiton of new works by Edward Woodley
“Edward Woodley is an artist and curator from Sydney. Working with materials such as salvaged timber, old metal signage, maps and the unwanted detritus of urban living, Woodley creates a unique version of pop art working with industrial materials. These art objects are a re-creation of the original ‘artworks’ that celebrate the overlooked beauty of their original parts.”

Here’s one show not to miss this week.
Some og our favourite bands around town playing all on the same bill.
Bringing you a night of desertly psychedelia, bells and smoking bangs.
Bring your spurs and join in for a beer...

There’s a Hole in my Bucket is an online project taking place during Sydney Design 08, asking members of he public to photograph a bright yellow bucket (with hole) in an environment they consider to be badly designed. The project has distributed 100 yellow buckets all around Sydney, and now is asking 80 members of the public to use the buckets to point out a design flaw in the Sydney environment, their proverbial ‘Hole in the bucket.”
If you want to get involved come and get a bucket from us. The images will be uploaded daily to www.theresaholeinmybucket.com and a closing party at Black and Blue Gallery will celebrate the project and award prizes for the most thought provoking and ingenious submissions.

POST MORTEM: Art Death and Illustration Exhibition
Group Exhibition at KINOKUNIYA GALLERY
Post Mortem is an investigation into the realms of an artist's pysche, carefully extracted and poured onto canvas. Including the feverish portraits of James Jirat Patradoon.

Level 2, The Galleries Victoria
500 George Street ,Sydney

One of our favourite galleries Monster Children Gallery and one of our favourite Sydney artists Trent Whitehead are cavorting south to Melbourne.
“‘Cornucopia’, a solo art show by Sydney artist Trent Whitehead features a highly entertaining “broke down vaudeville” installation. Based around the symbolic imagery of ‘magical horns’, the exhibition is undeniably generous in humor and beauty.Otherworldly characters capture the effervescence of the artist himself by pooling the experiences of his existence to breathe life into inanimate wood… "like a vagabond Giuseppi to a bad-ass Pinocchio".”

The most darling and extraordinary talented boys from Mercy Arms are finally releasing their debut album. If you’ve seen them over the last couple of years live as mercy arms or caught any of them in their other projects you’ll be as excited as I am to finally have an album in your hands. Its been a wait and I have no doubt it’ll be brilliant bliss. Buy the album and go to show definitely.

“Melbourne artist and designer Beci Orpin the creative force behind the fashion label Princess Tina is having a show at Outre Gallery opening 29th August. Anthropomorphised mushrooms dance on the backs of unicorns, cute lil teeth cry, folk art motifs sprinkle the landscape.” A designer who can yank what inside her head and turn in into stuff, in our case jewellery. Dobry Den still has lots of whimsical Princess Tina jewellery to collect.

DOBRY DEN DOES DENIM

APRIL77 Makes Clothes You Can Listen To (Or Is it Tunes You Wear?)

APRIL 77 is a Paris based label that has turned their adoration of bands such as the Ramones and Joy Division into both an inspired clothing label and a heat seeking record company.

Launched in 2002 by Frenchie Bric Partouche, and named so after his b'day, April 77 is predominantly a denim label that produces through fine tailoring and quality fabrics a knock about pair of jeans.

Every style is named after an inspiration from rock legend to beatnik poet. Then the collaboration with their record label comes in, every jean comes with their trademark guitar pick affixed to the fifth pocket and each pair has a little 7” tag with a scratchy panel that reveals a code that gets you a free MP3 single from their band of the month.

I know that sounds confusing so let me break it down for you with diagram.

APRIL77 have collaborated with the likes of, The Rolling Stones, Motörhead, Iggy Pop, The Bravery, Slash, Franz Ferdinand, The Horrors, Klaxons, Pete Doherty, Ipso Facto, Buzzcocks, The Kills and Black Lips.

Their current feature bands include the likes of below. Each band of the month has downloadable singles, a band t-shirt that coincides with the release and heaps of kudos and touring.

Three-piece post-punk outfit Neils Children from London, England.

The Willowz out of California, who collaborated with Michel Gondry on this clip.

The Red Hearts a garage punk band from Los Angeles, California.

So with good taste in mind we bring you April 77. Where all the jeans are unisex and the prices are cheap between $150 -$200. Would you expect anything less from the city that gave us couture and cheese.
